Updated: Jun 24

Introduction:

Single well control system, also named ESD Control Panel. It can simultaneously control subsurface safety valve (SCSSV), Christmas Tree main valve (MSSV) and wing valve (WSSV), and achieve sequential on/off function to reduce the frequency of use of SCSSV and improve its durability and reliability.

It adopts the two-step decompression control principle, which can greatly save the energy loss during use and improve the operation efficiency.

Main Controlled Components:

  • Downhole Safety Valve (DHSV / SSSV)

  • Surface Safety Valve (SSV)

  • Wing valves, master valves on the Christmas tree

  • Pressure sensors and emergency shutdown (ESD) loop

Core System Components:

  1. Hydraulic Power Unit (HPU)

    • Hydraulic reservoir, pneumatic / electric pump, accumulator, pressure relief valves

  2. Control Panel

    • Pressure gauges, regulating valves, manual override, ESD pushbuttons, fusible plug interfaces

  3. Safety Logic & Shutdown Loops

    • High / low pressure interlock

    • Fire detection and fusible plug shutdown

    • Local and remote ESD function

  4. Communication Module (Optional)

    • RTU / PLC for remote monitoring, data transmission, and remote control to central DCS / SCADA system

Key Functions:

  • Local manual operation of surface and downhole safety valves

  • Remote opening / closing and real-time status monitoring

  • Automatic well shutdown on overpressure, underpressure, or abnormal conditions

  • Fire-activated emergency shutdown via fusible plugs

  • ESD interlock with plant or platform safety systems

  • Loss of fluid / air pressure failsafe shutdown

  • Alarm indication and fault logging

Typical Applications:

  • Onshore oil and gas production wells

  • Unmanned remote well sites

  • Offshore platform individual producing wells

  • High-pressure and high-yield gas wells

  • Hazardous area wellhead control
